Topics in East Asian Studies is a variable-content course examining selected aspects of East Asian history, literature, culture, media, and society. Some courses might also address the broader diaspora. Courses may address issues such as colonialism, revolution, modernity, popular culture, identity, and contemporary developments. Through interdisciplinary approaches, students gain a deeper understanding of East Asia’s historical developments and its place in the world. Specific topics vary by semester.
