Catalog description

Part B: Multidisciplinary Seminars is a graduate-level, longitudinal conference series designed to strengthen advanced specialty residents’ ability to evaluate contemporary topics in dentistry and to collaborate effectively in complex, multi-provider care. The course integrates two complementary formats: Grand Rounds and Interdisciplinary Seminars, to support evidence-informed clinical decision-making, specialty-level communication, and coordinated treatment planning across disciplines. The course includes a structured sequence of topics delivered over a two-year cycle; at the end of each cycle, the Advanced Specialty Education Program Directors review and update the curriculum to maintain clinical relevance. Sessions are conducted monthly for 60 minutes and are delivered by a combination of postgraduate residents and faculty. Grand Rounds: the primary objective of Grand Rounds is to present and discuss current and emerging topics spanning advanced care and specialty areas of dentistry. This forum provides each specialty program an opportunity to select focused themes that are broadly relevant to a community of specialists. Topics emphasize biologic mechanisms, clinical innovations, research/discovery theme, or integrated combinations of these domains, with an expectation of scholarly synthesis and translation to patient care. Interdisciplinary Seminars: the primary objective of Interdisciplinary Seminars is to present shared topics that enhance diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with complex care needs that require coordinated specialty services. Emphasis is placed on preventing, recognizing, and managing treatment complications through interdisciplinary risk assessment and communication. This format also serves as a case-based consultation forum for presentation of complex cases in which a primary treating team seeks interdisciplinary input and support.
