Advanced AI and Machine Learning
New York University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Since about 2010, Artificial Intelligence has made numerous important breakthroughs, leading to dramatic improvements in speech recognition, computer vision, computational biology, chess/go/poker playing, digital art generation, and interactive chat bots. Going forward, we expect to see many other breakthroughs which will further revolutionize how we work, learn, and live. All of these AI breakthroughs are due to advances in Machine Learning, especially to recent advances in Deep Learning. In fact, today Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are essentially synonymous. This course will build on introductory courses in Machine Learning to explore modern AI topics such as Reinforcement Learning, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Generative AI, Foundational Models, and the mathematics of Deep Learning.
