Catalog description

This advanced 4-week elective offers students a unique opportunity to learn about the inpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents from 3 to 17 years of age. Students will be exposed to a wide range of adolescent psychopathology. Students will participate as part of the multidisciplinary team in the detailed diagnostic evaluation that each patient and their family receive. Students will gain an understanding of the treatment techniques used with children and adolescents and their families through closely supervised opportunities to provide patient care, including individual and family therapy. Students will participate in clinical case conferences and diagnostic seminars related to their cases. This teaching unit gives students the opportunity to work closely with the faculty and residents of the NYU Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, as well as residents of the NYU Department of Psychiatry.
