Catalog description

The child and adolescent psychiatry consultation-liaison service is an integral part of the pediatric services at Hassenfeld Children’s hospital and Bellevue Hospital. The child and adolescent psychiatry consultation-liaison service performs evaluations, emphasizes short-term treatment interventions with patients and their families, and facilitates referrals for long-term treatment when needed. The elective student will be exposed to a wide range of child psychopathology and will participate in the detailed diagnostic evaluation that each child or adolescent and his or her family receives. The student will gain an understanding of the treatment techniques used with children, adolescents, and their families through closely supervised opportunities to provide patient care, including individual and family therapy. The clinical experience is enriched by weekly case conferences and didactic seminars. Students will join the PGY-2 didactics on Thursdays in Manhattan, and Psychiatric and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Grand Rounds.
