Catalog description

This course is for Gallatin MA students who will be pursuing an artistic thesis that incorporates creative or dramatic writing (novel, poetry, screenplay, drama, memoir, cultural criticism, etc.) The class helps students understand and develop the genres, methods, and research practices that they will employ in writing and in situating their work within literary traditions. By close reading across genres, students will learn to identify and critique their own sources of writerly influence with an emphasis on thinking about the methods and strategies employed by these writers. This course’s workshop structure aims to connect Gallatin MA graduate students with each other through sharing their work and practice. Students will then draw on these frameworks and approaches as they draft the Thesis Proposal during the Thesis Proposal Seminar.
