Children of Divorce

This course provides an overview of current research on divorce in American families and is taught by a clinician who works directly with children and families affected by parent-conflict and divorce. Together, we explore the history of marriage and divorce in the United States, what research tells us about successful and failed marital relationships, and the risk and resilience factors pertinent to the parents and children of divorce. We discuss how divorce impacts children and their capacity to grow into loving, well-functioning, relationship-forming adults. Theories of attachment, intimacy, and communication are examined in the context of marriage and divorce.
