Systems Biomedicine and Society: Genetics

Catalog description

This is an integrated, transdisciplinary course that defines disciplines under the Vilcek umbrella (from cell and molecular biology to population health) and engages students across all domains with a focus on a significant, systems-level biomedical problem (e.g. aging, reproductive health). The course will be broken down into four modules (Society and Population Health; Physiology and Disease; Enabling Technology; and Model Organisms and Mechanisms) with content and discussions focused on providing a broader appreciation for and understanding of how each discipline contributes to addressing problems from fundamental biomedical discovery to societal implementation. The goal of the course is to leverage the scientific diversity of the program as a strength, contextualizing the specific area that will be the focus of the thesis work.
