Catalog description

For students engaged in paid or unpaid internships that are related to Biology but are not laboratory research positions. Restricted to students who cannot otherwise earn academic credit for non-research scientific placements. Typically requires 8 to 15 hours per week in fall or spring and up to 40 hours per week in the summer of meaningful, supervised work projects; no more than 25% of the work can be clerical or menial in nature. Facilitates a reflective and analytical approach to experiential learning. Students keep field journals and write papers that explore various aspects of their placement and related issues. Counts toward the total credits required for the baccalaureate degree but not toward any major or minor program. IMPORTANT: F-1 and J-1 international students must consult with the Office of Global Services (381 Lafayette Street; 212-998-4720) before registering. Requires permission from the department to enroll. Cannot be repeated for credit.
