Introduction to Data Science in Archaeology

This course introduces students to essential data science tools used in modern archaeological research. We will use these data science tools to tackle archaeological questions with contemporary relevance, for example: Why did the Mayan civilization collapse? Why are there giant stone heads on Easter Island? How does archaeological evidence change what we know about the Holocaust? Throughout these questions, we examine the ethics and social impacts of archaeology and data science. This is a novice-friendly class for students with no prior experience with archaeology, computers, programming, or statistics.
