Catalog description

Instruction in various orthopedic conditions and disorders commonly seen in physical therapy across the age spectrum including current medical management and physical therapy treatment. This course builds upon the basic skills learned in 220 and 222 and applies them to more specialized patient interaction. Students will learn to classify patient disability, work within a plan of care, review medical records for relevant information, adjust interventions, communicate pertinent changes to supervising PT, and participate in discharge planning. Students will also learn the application of prosthetic and orthotic devices, manual therapy techniques, advanced therapeutic techniques, gait training skills, joint muscle, and posture assessment to patients with a variety of orthopedic conditions.
