Risk, Crisis, & Non-Profit Communication

Catalog description

Prerequisite: ENGL 1120 or consent of instructor and advisor. Environmental, geopolitical, societal, economic, and technological risks and crises can affect corporations, industry, non-profit organizations, governments, science and education, anywhere in the world. While many of these threats cannot be stopped, their likelihood and impacts can be reduced through communication. In this active-learning, problem-based class, students follow and critically analyze situations of risk and crisis in for-profit and non-for-profit organizations. They learn how to develop and implement risk and crisis communication plans. Students apply their knowledge and skills in a risk or crisis communication project for a for-profit or non-for-profit client of their choice, and develop a portfolio of their work.
