Catalog description

The microstructure and mechanical properties of steels are covered in the course. Topics include the iron-carbon phase diagram, allotriomorphic transformation from austenite to ferrite, Widmanstätten ferrite, pearlite, kinetics of transformations and mechanisms that influence the microstructure and properties, effects of substitutional solutes on phase transformation and kinetics, crystallography of martensite, nucleation and growth of martensite and influence on mechanical properties, bainitic transformation and microstructure, thermomechanical treatment of steels, micro-alloyed steels, stainless steels, fracture and embrittlement.
