Review of ceramic microstructures. Atomistic, microstructural, and thermodynamic origins of ceramic properties, with emphasis on the effects of atomic and structural defects and interpretation of phase diagrams. Shares lectures with MTLS 4002, but is graded separately, and additional work is required at the graduate level.
