Catalog description

Introduction to risk concepts, behavior and determination of design loads acting on structures. Topics covered include development of codes and laws, in-depth discussion of minimum design loads (dead, live, snow, earthquake and wind) and load combinations, risk assessment in terms of uncertainty in material properties, consequences, heuristic loading assumptions, general structural integrity, and comprehension and application of codified documents. (cross-listed with CE 4011; additional course expectation for graduate credit)
