Catalog description

This course will cover two aspects of existing structures: investigating in situ conditions and monitoring changes in those conditions over time. Structural health monitoring (SHM) topics include: monitoring strategies, long and short term SHM, sensor types (vibration, temperature, strain), error and uncertainty propagation, interpreting and presenting monitoring results, and case studies of SHM projects. Many aspects of SHM utilize nondestructive testing and evaluation. We will also cover the methods, use, and analysis of data from nondestructive test methods, including ultrasonic, rebound, electrical, magnetic, radar, and visual methods, through a number of case studies and discussions. (shares lectures with CE 4009 with additional expectations for graduate credit)
