Cinema Review and Critique

Catalog description

This course develops students’ skills in critically viewing and evaluating films across genres, periods, and cultural contexts. Through screenings of classic, independent, and contemporary world cinema, students will learn to identify and analyze key cinematic elements such as narrative, mise en scène, cinematography, and editing. Emphasis is placed on developing a precise critical vocabulary and applying theoretical and historical frameworks to both oral discussions and written critiques. By the end of the course, students will be able to craft persuasive film reviews and analytical essays that demonstrate sophisticated engagement with cinema as an art form and cultural product.
