This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts behind the creation of museum exhibitions. Drawing from the extensive collection of the University Museum, students will gain hands-on experience with exhibition development, resulting in the creation of a temporary public exhibition housed in the Museum's gallery space. By turning the museum inside out, this course will be a unique, behind-the-scenes, practical experience. Through readings and discussion, we will also examine historic and contemporary interpretations of exhibitions and collections from the origins of museums in cabinets of curiosity and Wunderkammer, to the surge in modern virtual exhibitions since 2020. Students will engage in practical applications that will prepare them for future academic work in museum studies and/or future employment or volunteer work in museums.
