Catalog description

This course will look at specialty neurological physical therapy topics primarily focused on the vestibular system including extension into concussion management and EMG studies and interpretation. The student will be working towards independent evaluation of patients with specialty diagnosis including vestibular diagnoses and post-concussion syndrome from a position driven evaluation with gestalt reasoning to determine the relevant areas of the evaluation that must be completed based on the history and what presents through the evaluation. The emphasis of the course will be on diagnostic evaluation and treatment of specialty neurological topics. Evaluation will include diagnoses including both central and peripheral vestibular disorders, post-concussion syndrome, and EMG studies along with the various evidence based treatments associated with these diagnoses. As a clinical class, much time will be spent on problem solving real life clinical problems by using volunteer patients both from the class and from people associated with the class.
