Pharmacology for Physical Therapists
University of New Mexico-Main Campus · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
It is essential that a physical therapist be able to make appropriate treatment versus referral decisions with each patient evaluation because of increased responsibility in health management. A component of that is evaluation of the medications your patient is taking, consideration of whether medication side effects may contribute to the symptoms you observe and knowledge of side effects that impact rehabilitation treatments. Therefore, pharmacological treatment and mediation side effects will be addressed, including potential interactions between pharmacological agents and physical therapy practice. Medications will be discussed congruent with the respective physiological system.
