Catalog description

The advanced technical skills and patient assessment course prepares students with the knowledge and skills to assess and plan for critically ill and emergency patients. Students also learn advanced anesthesia skill techniques. Through small group activities and the use of patient actors, students enhance their skills in patient assessment. By utilizing skill trainers students learn how to place spinals, epidurals, and central lines. Airway mannequins are used for skill development in fiberoptic intubations and cricothyrotomy airway placement. Coursework is completed through lectures, assignments, group activities, and hands-on skill trainers.
