Principles of Clinical Instrumentation & Patient Monitoring II

Catalog description

Students will learn the clinical application of anesthesia instrumentation through knowledge in circuits and engineering concepts. Monitors and devices used in the operating room are studied with respect to the fundamentals of operation, calibration, and interpretation of data. Students will learn principles, application, and interpretation of various monitoring modalities including intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring, temperature, renal function, coagulation/hemostasis, neuromuscular junction, transesophageal echocardiography, and point of care ultrasound testing. The course covers advanced concepts of transesophageal echocardiography, electric and radiation safety, and the hazards and complications of monitoring patients during anesthesia.
