Catalog description

This is a hands-on undergraduate Improvisation and Composition course starting from the beginning of the Blues and Negro Spiritual's. It moves through the many decades and growth of the Blues Genre and Musical form. Starting with Blues legend WC Handy (St Louis Blues). This course will cover Traditional Blues, Jazz blues, Country Blues West coast blues, Bebop blues, Modal Blues, Rock Blues, and fusion Blues. Specific topics break down and analyze the blues scale and form from simple to complex. The 12-bar blues, the 16 bar blues and the 8 bar blues will be mastered and evolved according to each student's level of development.
