Catalog description
Prerequisites: ENGL 101 . Pre or Corequisites: ENGL 102 . This course introduces the process of developing sound design through analyzing a text and exploring how sound can shape the emotional landscape, enhance storytelling, and deepen audience engagement. Students will engage in practicing multiple foundational techniques focusing on research, sourcing of recordings, sound editing, manipulation, and composition. Students will then utilize these techniques through small class projects. Emphasis will be placed on the synergy of sound with the other design elements and how it serves the artistic vision of a production. The course covers the entire sound design process—from analysis to implementing the technical requirements for a production. Through practical exercises and design projects, students will gain hands-on experience in crafting sound for live theatre.
