Prerequisites: PSY 210 or FRSC 201 . This course explores the intersection of psychology and the legal system, examining how psychological science informs law, policy, and practice. Students investigate topics such as investigative psychology, eyewitness memory, confessions and interrogations, jury decision-making, trial processes, and the role of mental health within the criminal justice system. The course also considers correctional and rehabilitative contexts, as well as alternative approaches to justice. Emphasis is placed on evaluating empirical research and addressing ethical dilemmas and practical challenges that emerge when psychological principles are applied in legal and forensic settings.
