Catalog description

Prerequisites: MATH 211 or MATH 213 . Corequisite: MTEN 201 . The course will introduce the fundamentals of the mechanical behavior of materials. The principles of stress, strain will be introduced. The elements of elasticity, plasticity, will be discussed in depth. The concept of crystal geometry, different lattice defects, work hardening will be taught. Furthermore, the fundamentals of plastic deformation of polycrystalline materials, dislocation theory, and fracture will be discussed in detail. The course will include written and oral presentation of team projects on analysis of relevant peer-reviewed papers on the latest development of the field.
