This course introduces the field of Information Systems, the study of how people, processes, structure, and technology are used to make an organization more effective. It examines the major areas in the field, analyzing the major issues, trends, and problems. It surveys the role of information systems in organizations and how these systems support organizational objectives and organizational structure, as well as sustain competitive advantage. It discusses basic concepts including the system's point of view, the organization of a system, the nature of information and information flows, as well as how people process information, and related cognitive concepts. The course examines the activities and resources utilization in global IT network management, knowledge management, Big Data, Business Analytics, AI, IoT, Cloud Computing, Global Supplies and Value Chains. Finally, the course examines the emerging issues related to intellectual property rights and obligations, as well as the related political, social, security and ethical issues governing the use of modern information systems.
