Extended Reality Interfaces. 3 credits, 3 contact hours
New Jersey Institute of Technology · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Extended reality (XR), encompassing virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, is increasingly applied across domains such as training, simulation, healthcare, and interactive systems. Developing effective XR experiences requires an integrated understanding of software development, hardware capabilities, and human interaction. This course introduces students to the behavior, development, and evaluation of XR systems through a combination of software implementation, system architecture, and human-centered evaluation. Students will develop interactive XR systems while examining how hardware constraints, tracking systems, rendering pipelines, and input modalities influence usability, performance, and user experience. The course emphasizes the relationship between software configuration, hardware affordances, and human behavior, preparing students to develop, implement, and evaluate XR systems in real-world contexts.
