Catalog description
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to examine user-facing AI systems through a human-centered lens. Students will first gain foundational knowledge in both AI/ML capabilities and limitations, and HCI principles, then explore challenges unique to AI systems, including uncertainty, opacity, and bias. Students will then learn how to analyze AI systems for transparency, fairness, user control, and explainability; identify and assess ethical and societal implications of AI systems across different stakeholder groups; identify and apply human-AI interaction paradigms for different use contexts and user needs; and ultimately apply human-centered design principles, patterns, and guidelines to design better AI interfaces.
