Prerequisites: FRSC 201 or EPS 202 . Environmental Forensics is the application of scientific principles to identify the sources, timing, and extent of environmental contamination. This course introduces students to the analytical, chemical, geological, and legal tools used to investigate environmental pollution events. Topics include contaminant fate and transport, chemical fingerprinting, stable isotope analysis, hydrocarbon and metal forensics, and case studies involving soil, groundwater, air, and sediment contamination. Students will explore how forensic data are interpreted within regulatory and litigation contexts and how multidisciplinary evidence supports environmental decision-making.
