Design and Prototyping for Research. 3 credits, 4 contact hours
New Jersey Institute of Technology · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course introduces graduate students to design and prototyping tools and techniques to create experimental platforms needed in various research pursuits. Students will gain the fundamental skills of prototyping, including laser cutting, 3D printing, hand fabrication, power tool use, metrology, electronics, data acquisition, and programming. Through applied practice, students will design and build experimental systems that enable the testing of scientific hypotheses. By the end of the course, students will be able to translate their hypothesis into design objectives and constraints, select a process for prototyping, and realize the experimental set-up.
