Structural Dynamics and Seismic Design. 3 credits, 3 contact hours
New Jersey Institute of Technology · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Pre or Corequisites: Introductory course to subject matters; It is assumed that students will have background in Civil Engineering or related field. This course integrates the principles of structural dynamics with the practical applications of earthquake engineering to equip students with the skills needed to design structures capable of withstanding seismic events and moving load. Topics include the fundamentals of structural vibration, single and multi-degree-of-freedom systems, damping, and response spectra. Students will explore seismic design methodologies, including the analysis of earthquake-induced forces, dynamic response of structures, and code-based design practices (e.g., ASCE 7, IBC).
