Prerequisites: CE 332 , CE 341 , CE 342 , or CE 360 . This course will provide basic knowledge on the application of geotechnical and engineering principles in the design, excavation, drilling, and construction in underground space for tunneling, storage, mining/extraction, underground sustainability, and underground infrastructure under in-situ conditions. This course covers various topics in underground engineering as tunneling; vertical and directional drilling; borehole/wellbore mechanics; underground construction and cementing; open cut construction; underpinning; underground water leakage control; rock blasting; Inspection and rehabilitation of existing structures; underground design for onshore & offshore solar and wind energy systems; underground gas transport and sequestration/storage; mining; underground deep roadways; geothermal energy pile; and underground support in coastal areas.
