Catalog description

This course introduces students to bioinformatics with a strong focus on understanding and analyzing genomic data using practical, hands-on methods. Students will learn how biological data is generated, stored, and analyzed, and will gain guided experience using Linux command-line tools and basic scripting. Topics include sequence alignment, RNA-Seq analysis, variant discovery, and the use of major biological databases. Emphasis is placed on learning core concepts, following step-by-step workflows, and interpreting results rather than advanced programming.
