Catalog description

Prerequisites: BME 302 . This course introduces the dynamics of mechanical systems, emphasizing applications in biomedical engineering. Topics covered include kinematics, force-momentum formulation for systems of particles and rigid bodies in planar motion, work-energy concepts, virtual displacements, and virtual work. Students will also become familiar with the three basic methods used in dynamics and learn their respective advantages before facing the difficulties associated with the motion of rigid bodies. Traditional dynamics concepts are reinforced through biomedical examples such as human motion, prosthetic mechanics, and biomechanical vibrations, preparing students to analyze real-world biomedical engineering systems and associated matrix eigenvalue problems.
