Catalog description

Prerequisites: ( BIOL 201 and BIOL 202 or R120 201 and R120 202 ) and ( BIOL 205 and BIOL 206 or R120 205 and R120 206) and ( CHEM 126 or R160 115 ). A comprehensive overview of the microbial world with a focus on its impact on human health and disease. Students will study the genetics, physiology, morphology, evolution, reproduction, and pathophysiology of microbes. They will explore how microbes impact our ecology, agriculture, pharmaceutical landscape, industrial manufacturing, and health, and in particular how modern biotechnology may be used to combat the spread of microbial diseases.
