Catalog description

This course provides a rigorous, proof‑based introduction to probability and statistics. Core topics include study design, data collection and sampling, exploratory data analysis, probability rules, conditional probability, and Bayes' theorem, discrete and continuous probability distributions, joint distributions, linear combinations of random variables, estimation, hypothesis testing, and one‑way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The emphasis is on frequentist inference, with a brief comparison to Bayesian ideas. This course is offered primarily for computer science, data science, and statistics majors at the sophomore level.
