Crafting Ocean Stories: Research & Writing for the Public in Marine Science & Ocean Engineering

Catalog description

Clear, unbiased, and engaging communication of new developments in science and engineering can help foster a populace that is well-informed, thinks critically, and remains democratically engaged. In this course, students will learn to curate well-researched stories on topics in marine science and ocean engineering for a general audience. Topics covered include interviewing experts, making sense of scientific analysis, visualization of facts and data, and crafting compelling stories. The final course output will be a feature-length article reporting on UNH marine research or addressing a community-sourced question related to the marine environment. A 101-level course in college science is recommended prior to taking this course.
