Responding to Student Writers

Catalog description

Includes instruction in philosophy and techniques of writing consultation, theoretical and practical issues in collaborative learning and complex-skill formation, and cross-disciplinary conventions of writing. The course emphasizes three main theoretical concerns of writing centers: writing as a process and mode of inquiry, the writer's agency, and writing as a social and collaborative activity. Through the study of writing center history, theory, and research, students develop their own writing center practice. Students typically take this course alongside their first semester of work in the University Writing Center, but it is open to any graduate student who wishes to be formally trained in providing feedback to student writers.
