This course considers the relationship between the environment and social power, including international and US case studies that reveal how social differences such as class, race, ethnicity, and gender intersect with environmental aspects of rural and urban development, food systems, natural resources, technology, sustainability, and climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. It compares solutions offered by government, business, and civil society. It is a discussion seminar with readings, short, informal writings, student-driven discussion in small groups, limited lecture, and more structured writing with guided revision.
