Place and Power: Political Geographies from Personal to Global

This course introduces the breadth of contemporary political geography. It considers relationships between space/place and social power across personal to global scales. This may include geographic perspectives on socio-cultural identity, territory, migration, the state, civil society, borders, sovereignty, democracy, governance, citizenship, colonialism, neoliberalism, postcolonialism, justice, social change, conflict, violence, security, and geopolitics. It is a discussion seminar with readings, short, informal writings, student-driven discussion, limited lecture, more structured writings, and guided revision.
