Globalization and Global Population Health

Catalog description

This anthropology course focuses on the study of human population health, in particular the coevolution of humans and diseases as well as disease causation and impacts on the human species globally. This course pulls from evolutionary theory, bioarchaeological evidence, and contemporary medical anthropological and global public health approaches to examine how human populations are formed and sustain themselves through time and space. Specific topics vary, but may include historic urbanization and proliferation of crowd-diseases, the spread of novel pathogens through global exploration and colonization, the re-emergence of infectious diseases, the politics of global health interventions, and sustainable health movements.
