Human Osteology

Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the human skeletal system through a combination of lectures, online resources, laboratory work, and case studies. The course covers the growth and development of the human skeleton, identification of bones and teeth, siding of bones and teeth, and major cranial landmarks. The focus of the course is on learning and developing osteological identification skills, though the main concepts of the biological profile (e.g., population affinity, skeletal sex, stature, and age estimation) are introduced. The skills developed in this course are prerequisites for advanced training in identifying pathological conditions, trauma analysis, and biological profile creation for bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology.
