Catalog description

This course will teach students how the law interacts with policy responses in our complex health care industry through analyzing the lifespan of federal and state laws in key areas of the health care system, including recent cases decided by the Supreme Court of the United States, `mega? statutes such as the Affordable Care Act and developing state law. Students will develop critical legal and policy focused research, writing and analytic skills through analysis of legal and policy responses to the health insurance coverage dilemma, prescription drug delivery and payment process, and public health issues such as the opioid crisis, COVID-19 pandemic and access to care. Students will review currently debated policy implications, legal challenges and health policy issues. Students will be guided through two short writing assignments and a longer in depth and current written analysis of a chosen health law topic.
