Disability and Pop Culture

Catalog description

HUM 303 explores the historical and contemporary representations of disability in popular culture. Using critical disability studies as our lens, students will develop an understanding of how narratives in film, new media, art, and literature influence public discourse and personal experience around disability. Furthermore, students will examine how media representations shape societal perceptions and attitudes towards disability and perpetuate ableism and/or affect change. Prerequisite(s): HUM 100
