Catalog description

This course builds knowledge and instructional practices associated with adolescent literacy skills (grades 4-12). With a focus on how reading develops for intermediate and secondary students along with their literacy skills (i.e., word recognition, activating background knowledge, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing), candidates will be able to identify concrete strategies to support students' learning. The course helps to build knowledge and skills of evidence-based literacy instruction and provides resources to support teachers' planning and instruction.
