Catalog description

This course introduces students to storytelling traditions and cultural perspectives from diverse Spanish-speaking nations through reading, listening to, and creating short stories. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to selected authors and themes relevant to today's world, including topics such as education, the environment, law, the workplace, gender and race relations, and political and military conflicts. In addition to engaging with contemporary Hispanic and Latino authors, students will strengthen oral and written skills in Spanish, particularly through the practice of storytelling and the composition of their own short narratives. The course emphasizes clear and informed communication about contemporary issues, while fostering insight into diverse perspectives from a multidisciplinary standpoint.
