BECOMING A SOCIAL WORKER: ETHICS AND RELATIONSHIP

This course is designed to support newly admitted Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students as they transition into the professional core of their social work education. The course introduces students to the ethical foundations, expectations, and relational responsibilities of social work practice while critically examining traditional notions of "professionalism" and their historical ties to power, dominance, and exclusion. This course emphasizes relational accountability and ethical self-awareness through reflexive practice. Students will be encouraged to consider how identity, power, and lived experience shape interactions with peers, faculty, institutions, and communities. By the end of the course, students will be oriented to the expectations of social work education and prepared to engage thoughtfully, respectfully and ethically throughout the remainder of the BSW program.
