PHIL 1020
CONTEMPORARY MORAL PROBLEMS
University of Nebraska at Omaha · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
In this class, we explore arguments concerning a wide range of ethical and moral problems. We consider topics on themes such as individual and collective obligations to those in need, the proper role and limits of government, duties with respect to animals and the environment, issues at the edge of life and death, and how to navigate the ethical impacts of new technologies. We discuss contentious issues in a manner promoting rational critique and mutual understanding. This course is not about proving that a particular position is right, but rather is about fostering civil discourse by deepening appreciation of arguments and understanding the views of those with different values and perspectives.
