Catalog description

This course focuses on beginner keyboard proficiency, musicianship skills in the context of music technology and the contemporary industry. Students will explore the use of performance keyboard technologies like hardware and software synthesizers, multilayered and split range MIDI controllers, synchronous backing tracks and click tracks, and auxiliary instrument routing and effects. Performance outcomes will be based a wide range of musical communication standards ranging from common practice notation to lead sheets and guitar tabs as well as an equally wide range of improvisational styles and techniques. Projects will emphasize the importance of collaboration and creativity while encouraging a diverse musical repertoire aligned with the comprehensive skills needed in today's music industry.
